Running on gluten-free carbs…

The Runner Girl

It was a year ago I took up running.  For no reason whatsoever…just to do it.  I figured a lap or two around the track at the gym and I’d be done.  But what I found, instead, was freedom.  I found something I could do…just me…that brought a smile to my face…challenged me…and made me feel so good – inside and out.

And from there…a monster was born.

Starting back on April 4, 2011 when I ran my first ever 5K…succeeding in my goal to run the entire thing.  My roommate and my co-worker, Laura, came out to cheer me on.  And from there…I was hooked.  And the races kept on coming and I sought out as many as I could physically manage.  I even ran my first half marathon in Chicago, Illinois on September 11, 2011, with my roommate and friend Heather waiting for me at the finish.  I had never been so damn proud of myself than I was when I crossed that finish line in a respectable 2 hours 20 minutes.

And except for a couple months off due to injury…I haven’t stopped running since I started.

Nor do I intend to anytime soon.

I run home from work.  I run when I wake up.  I run on my lunch break.  If I can find a good time to run, I lace up my shoes and hit the road.  And if the weather is bad…well…I have a track or a treadmill at the gym.

The fact is…I’m a runner.  So, I’m going to run.  It really is that simple.
